Halloween on Park Street

On October 31st, we continued our annual tradition of giving out candy at 381 Park Street, the vacant lot we have been activating since 2021.

Through doorknocking over the past years, we have learned that neighbors want to build a more fun and festive Halloween presence on the street. One resident explained:

Up where we are, at Halloween, we didn’t get any kids. [...] And you might be saying, ‘why is she bringing this up?’ [...] And as you look down, there was a parade of kids going up and down Melville. But that community came out with elaborate costumes, and they made a notice about, ‘we got candy here.’ [... That] community [...] have a nice, tight community [...] My hope is that the upper part of Park Street embraces that sense of community and does something like that, as well. Using the lot, maybe having a Halloween festival to get the kids to come up that way, you know. Maybe having our own festival up there.

For this and other Park Street residents, Halloween is seen as way to promote a connective neighborhood experience — so we have heeded the call. And once again, we had a great time!
