Occupied Housing

Do you live in or know about a building where the tenants may be at risk of getting displaced?

If you live in a property where the tenants are organized and interested in becoming part of the CLT, contact BNCLT! We are looking to acquire properties in Boston neighborhoods—especially Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury.

In this model, BNCLT works with its partners and tenants to identify occupied properties where tenants are at risk of displacement due to foreclosure, eviction, rent increase or sale.  Properties in which tenants are organized and eager to join a CLT can then approach BNCLT to build a potential acquisition strategy.

BNCLT’s next step is to determine the financial feasibility of acquiring that property..  If feasible, BNCLT assembles the financing for acquisition, redevelopment if needed, and a permanent mortgage plan. This financial plan must include costs for temporary relocation of tenants in case of significant redevelopment. For buildings occupied by renters, BNCLT partners with a property manager who is familiar with the CLT model, as the relationship between BNCLT, residents, and property manager will be a critical determinant of success.

Throughout this process, tenants are engaged to help shape redevelopment plans.  The tenants participate in leadership training programs to understand CLT’s and their role within the CLT model.
