TOPA Testimonials

TOPA Testimonials

The fight to pass TOPA continues! Beyond simply reaching out to your legislators about TOPA, we are getting creative about our messaging. We are calling all TOPA supporters to

  • Record 30 second video testimonials, describing why TOPA is important to you and your community!

  • Take a photo of yourself holding a sign that says I support TOPA because…

Please reach out to Jason at Desrosier@AllstonBrightonCDC.org with your video and photo testimonials or for more information about this campaign.

In addition please continue to reach out to your legislators. Please contact your senator and representative (look up here) to ask them to cosponsor one or both of the pending TOPA bills: H.1426, (filed by Representatives Livingstone and Consalvo); S.890 (filed by Senator Jehlen). The two bills are identical. Under the tab that says “Petitioners” you can read the list of names see who is already a Co-Sponsor (petitioner) of the bill.

State your name and address, and please personalize and share the following messages:

Non-Cosponsors:

My name is ___________ and I am a constituent, living at _______. I ask that you please co-sponsor H 1426, S 890, the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act, also known as the ‘act to guarantee tenants' first right of refusal.’ I also ask that you weigh in with the Housing Chairs to let them know TOPA is a priority, and request a hearing.

We have been suffering a housing crisis for years. People are being forced from their homes and communities, displaced from neighborhoods where they have grown up and wish to remain. In the wake of the pandemic, we cannot repeat the loss of homes and wealth transfer that we saw happen in 2008. TOPA is critical now to address pandemic-triggered housing speculation and to help tenants stay in their homes for the long term. Thank you for taking the time to consider co-sponsoring this critically important legislation.
