Take Action: Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act
BNCLT, along with the TOPA Coalition Organizing Committee, has refiled the Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA, (SD.2238/HD.3645)), with lead sponsors Senators Pat Jehlen and Adam Gomez and Representatives Jay Livingstone and Rob Consalvo. Please join us for a TOPA Strategy Session on Tuesday, February 28th at 11:30AM (details below). This will be a chance to connect our stories across the state and discuss a path to winning this important anti-displacement campaign.
Tenants continue to face a displacement crisis, with rising housing costs and wages that can’t keep up. Displacement and unaffordable rents disproportionately impact people of color, seniors, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups — and increase segregation in our communities. We need to keep landlord profit and greed in check. The Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA) is just one tool of many (rent control, just cause eviction, transfer fees, etc.) that will move us closer to housing justice where everyone has a safe and affordable home.
