Take Action: Small Properties Acquisition Fund

Fighting Displacement & Stabilizing Families and Communities for the Long Term

The Small Properties State Acquisition Funding Pilot provides funding to purchase and rehab existing affordable housing and keep it affordable for generations. The purpose of this program is to combat the state's housing crisis by preserving existing affordable housing units for long-term affordability, targeting small buildings. It is modeled after a successful preservation program in use in Boston (Aquisition Opportunity Program) — but we know we need to care for our housing supply statewide. Passed by the MA Legislature and Governor in 2022 as part of the Economic Bond Bill, this $1 million pilot program helps communities fight against displacement due to gentrification or to disinvestment. It was proposed by the Greater Boston Community Land Trust Network (GBCLTN), community allies, and legislative champs. Now that the fund has been established, GBCLTN is requesting $12 million from the legislature to fully support the implementation of the Small Properties Acquisition Fund.
